Evol: Chicken Enchilada Bake

Okay, this meal isn’t good.  At all. It’s somehow dry, and overwhelming wet at the same time.  It’s both bland and flavorful.  It can be all those things, but one thing I know for sure, after eating half of this for lunch and then throwing it away, I know it’s not good.

Let’s start off with the box, because honestly that is where the best of this meal is going to come from.

chicken-enchilada-bake-56282The description on the website says this:  Tender cilantro lime white meat chicken with corn tortillas, pinto beans, cheddar cheese, white rice, and roasted corn—all topped with an insanely tasty green enchilada sauce.   Let’s break that down.

The white meat chicken had no taste.  I’m one of the people who get to eat cilantro and taste soap. I still like cilantro though, which I guess means I like to eat soap?  I’m not sure what it means, but when I bit into your cilantro lime chicken, it better taste like soap or lime, and it tasted like nothing.  That’s a bad sign.

Topped with corn tortillas you say?  Again, this is a thing that just did not happen. The in box tortilla was both barren of flavor and someone slimy to the touch.  It was not topping anything.  It was just a round, thick wafer made of I am sure corn flour, water and a touch of sadness.

Black beans were in my box, the website says pinto beans, but that wouldn’t have made a difference.  There were far to few to make them memorable.

White rice.  It was there, and a ton of it!  The reason I ate so little of the meal is because the bowl was just filled with rice.  This by the way, is where the cilantro lime flavor should have been.  It Taco Bell can do it, surely you can Evol, you’re owned by ConAgra after all.

The roasted corn had the same issues as the black beans. Yeah, they might have been there, but everything was just so bland.  This was basically hospital food that they had the audacity to freeze, ship to stores, and sell to people.

The insanely tasty green enchilada sauce?  It was neither insane or tasty.  It was green though, so two out of three ain’t bad I guess.

Cooking instructions were easy enough, after pulling it out of the box, you put it in the microwave for 3 minutes and 45 seconds.  It looked okay in it’s frozen state, but when it came out of the microwave, I was treated to this nightmarish image.

The white stuff in the center?  Well I sure hope that was a glob of poorly melting cheddar cheese, because I have no other idea what it could be.

Evol has 8 other products in their gluten free line, and I am at this point, to afraid to try them because of how poor the eating experience of this was.  I like the idea, but the execution was just to bad.

Evol: Chicken Enchilada Bake 0 out of 5.

If you have a choice between eating this or going hungry, I would strongly suggest going hungry.  However, if you love flavorless food and find yourself often wishing to be in the hospital, because they really know how to cook, well, good news!
