One of the things that I experience often, due to not being able to leave my house or consume normal products, is a real fear of missing out. The KFC Double Down was something that I got to try, because it came out before my life spiraled out of control, and it was uh..a sandwich. I guess. The Naked Chicken Chalupa from Taco Bell was out in 2017, well after things were turned upside down, and the idea of chicken as a taco shell seemed really appealing to me. Since then, fried chicken has been used as a chip for Taco Bell as well. I miss it. There is actually a lot of gluten free options at Taco Bell, but you run the risk for cross contamination, because work spaces are shared, so you might get ill after eating there if you are gluten conscious.
Since I’m agoraphobic, I don’t actually get to experience grocery shopping as others do. My shopping is done from the computer, selecting items I would like to try, and sticking to routine. I had never heard of Real Good Foods, but after running a gluten free search, they had numerous items pop up on the first page of the search, I clicked on a couple, saw that chicken was used as a pasta or a tortilla replacement, and thought, well, I need to try these out. I added one item to my cart, because I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on stuff that I may not like, and sadly, I wish I had ordered more.
I picked the Chicken Enchiladas as my introduction to the company.

That is a lot of protein per serving, and a small amount of carbs, which my mother would take interest in. I understand these products are Keto friendly, so if you’re in to that, these would be an option for you.
This was my lunch today. I woke up, got to work, finished up the articles I had been preparing for the sites, worked on a few Pioneer decks and decided that lunch needed to happen. I got things ready, opened the box and saw this staring back at me.

I’m a big dude, I can’t stomach a lot of food anymore, but this…was not a lot of food. The hand rolled enchiladas were frozen together, which is okay, that happens, but there is a distinct lack of cheese and sauce coverage on this product. I don’t want things to be smothered, but on the other hand, I really don’t think the product should be peaking out from underneath the toppings.
There are microwave instructions, but I decided to go with the oven instructions. I peeled off the wrapper, put the tray on a baking sheet, set the oven for the time and temp and went off to play some Magic: The Gathering Arena. When I was done with my match, I walked back in, pulled it out of the oven and was greeted with this.

Yeah the edges of the chicken tortillas were a little bit over done. I blame that on a distinct lack of Monterey Jack Cheese and sauce. This wasn’t going to stop me though, I’ve eaten food that was more burnt than this before.
I took some pictures, posted them on the gram, and ate. The food was pretty good. The sauce was rich and flavorful. The chicken tortilla reminded me of a thick cut piece of chicken breast lunch meat. I couldn’t actually taste any of the Parmesan cheese, but I assume it was there more as a binder to work the chicken. It was there. It wasn’t terribly juicy, or terribly spicy, it was just the delivery vehicle for the chicken filling. The filling itself was very good. The chicken had a texture of canned diced chicken, the cheese popped and was very noticeable. The spices were a nice compliment. The sauce however was almost non existent, like it baked off, a casualty of following the directions on the back of the box. Yet even with the lack of sauce, there was a lot grease in the serving bowl left over.
There was no weird after taste, no weird textures, the food was filling, even if there wasn’t a lot of it. However, at a 3.97 price point from Walmart, I felt very shorted here, considering that I could get a full meal from the Saffron Road brand, with two larger enchiladas and rice for just a penny more from the same store. I would have loved this meal had it came with a keto friendly cauliflower rice dish, or barring that, rice and beans. As it stands this isn’t a real good value, nor is it a real good meal. It is however, a real good snack, one that let me in to the product line easily, and I would try other offerings that the company makes. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. It was food.
3 out of 5.
Pros:
Easy to cook.
The small package does not take up much room in a crowded freezer.
A lot of flavor in a very small package.
Cons:
Very small portion size.
Expensive for what it is when compared to other company offerings.
Weird greasy bits.
Oh my gosh, that is a lot of sodium!
